Understanding Waste Totals and Waste Emissions in TRACE

Your waste total is measured in tonnes and represents the total volume of waste generated by your event.

Your waste emissions total measures the environmental impact of that waste and is shown in tCO2e (tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent). This includes the emissions produced through:

  • landfill
  • incineration
  • recycling
  • anaerobic digestion (AD) and composting

Where does the waste data come from?

The numerical waste total in TRACE pulls data from three separate modules:

  • Waste
  • Production
  • Graphics

Waste Module

Data entered in the Waste module includes:

  • venue waste
  • public waste
  • waste created by your production or event team

In simple terms, this covers anything that ends up in your event bins.

This can be measured using:

  • exact material weights
  • bin or bag volumes (litres)
  • venue averages (if exact data is unavailable)

This contributes to your:

  • recycling total
  • general waste total
  • food waste total

Production & Graphics Modules

Your final waste total also includes materials entered in the Production and Graphics modules that are marked as:

  • Supplier removed for recycling
  • Supplier removed for disposal

❗Only materials labelled as “supplier removed…” in the Production and Graphics modules are automatically included in the numerical waste total.

Any other waste materials must also be entered in the Waste module in order to be counted in your final waste calculations.
