Why can't I measure Hired Goods?
TRACE does not include hired goods (including lighting and AV systems) within event measurement.
For Hired Equipment
If equipment is hired, it is counted as zero carbon, as the embodied carbon associated with the construction of the equipment has already been accounted for in its first use.
In TRACE, the embodied carbon is the responsibility of the purchaser of the goods (typically, the supplier) and not the event organiser.
Note: If you are a supplier, or have purchased the goods, you can measure the embodied carbon emissions via the 'Purchased Goods and Services' section in TRACE Business Operations.
The carbon emissions generated from transporting the goods to and from the event, as well as the potential increased energy emissions generated by any electrical equipment, will be covered in the other modules for your event.
Examples include; Lighting equipment, AV gear like looms and cabling, power generators, furniture and LED walls.
For Hired Materials
For any production materials used on site that came from hired sources, the carbon emissions will also read as zero.
However, we recommend you still include these materials within the Production and Graphics modules, as it counts towards good practice when considering material circularity. This will be shown in the 'Production' section of your event dashboard.
Examples include; Reusable carpet, modular flooring panels and reusable staging platforms.
Embodied carbon refers to the emissions created during the manufacturing of a product.
Circularity is the practice of keeping materials in use as long as possible, through reuse, repair and proper recycling, to cut waste and carbon.
